How it works
Durations are base-60, which is why adding them by hand goes wrong so often — 45 minutes plus 30 minutes is 1:15, not 0:75. Everything here is converted to seconds, summed, then formatted back.
Decimal hours for timesheets
Payroll systems almost always want decimal hours, not hours and minutes: 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75, not 7.45. That conversion is the single most common source of payroll disputes, and it is the second result above.
What the parser accepts
1:23:45- Hours, minutes, seconds.
23:45- Minutes and seconds — two parts are always read as m:s.
1h 30m- Unit suffixes, in any order.
90- A bare number is read as minutes.
Video and audio work
For frame-accurate work, seconds are not enough — you need the frame rate, since 00:00:01;00 at 29.97 fps drop-frame is not one second of wall clock. Use a timecode calculator for that.
